As a large part of our oak collection, this collection of 50 different oak species, cultivars, and hybrids, is used to showcase oaks and contribute to oak research. We are displaying and acquiring all oak species for use in a hybridization program that may lead to new oaks with desirable characteristics, such as blue foliage, evergreen leaves, shrubby stature, high pH tolerance, and rapid growth.

Collaborating for Conservation

Our oak collection is part of the American Public Gardens Association Plant Collections Network, which coordinates a continent-wide approach to plant germplasm preservation. As a steward of this collection, we provide germplasm, which is the living genetic resources of the plant, such as seeds or tissues, for taxonomic studies, evaluation, breeding and other research.
