field of plants with yellow and brown flowers shaped like daisies

Rudbeckia hirta

Native to the central U.S., but grows across most of the country, black-eyed susans have a wide range of medicinal uses in several Indigenous communities. The Cherokee People of present day southeastern U.S. use the plant to treat dropsy, worms, sores, earaches, and genital infections. The Haudenosaunee People of New York State also used the plant for worms, especially for children with the ailment.
