Yellow sunflower

Helianthus annuus ‘Hopi Black Dye'

Sunflowers seeds are a staple in the diets of many Indigenous people in North America including the Haudenosaunee, Navajo, and Hopi.  The seeds have been used in ceremonies to create body paint and other dyes. Parts of the plant have been used for topical treatments including burns, sores, snake bites and spider bites.
