Native to the continental U.S. and parts of Canada, white turtlehead is a multi-use medicinal plant for several groups of Indigenous Peoples. The Cherokee People of present-day southeastern U.S. seek out the plant to treat fever, worms, and sores. The Haudenosaunee People of present-day New York State use the plant as a liver aid. The Mi'kmaq Nation of present-day Maine use the herb as a form of contraception.
