Biocultural Value
It has been used in folk medicine and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is used to treat wounds, allergies, TB, arthritis, asthma, hypertension and as a diuretic. Several shades of dye can be produced from Canada goldenrod.
Wildlife Value
White-tailed deer selectively graze Canada goldenrod, particularly inlate summer and autumn after inflorescence development. It is an important source of nectar for honeybees. This plant supports Wavy-lined Emerald (Synchlora aerata) larvae. The pollen and nectar are attractive to many pollinators including monarch butterflies. The flowers and leaves are eaten by deer, while the birds eat the seeds. This plant is grazed by cattle, sheep, horses, and whitetail deer.
