Description

Pyramidal, conical with a single straight trunk when young, supposedly developing a broad-rounded crown with age, reaching 70' to 100' in height with a 25' spread; known to reach 120' in height. Fall color can be an excellent orange-brown to red-brown. Bark reddish-brown when young, becoming darker, grayish, fissured and exfoliating in long narrow strips; base buttressing and developing an irregular fluted character.
