Biocultural Value

Solidago nemoralis has been used for centuries as a medicinal plant by Native Americans, who used it to treat a variety of ailments such as colds, flu, and sore throats. Wildlife Value

This plant supports Wavy-lined Emerald (Synchlora aerata) larvae. Flowers attract butterflies, native bees, honey bees and other pollinators. Songbirds sich as Eastern Goldfinch eat the seeds. Members of the genus Solidago support the following specialized bees: Andrena (Callandrena s.l.) asteris, Andrena (Callandrena s.l.) braccata, Andrena (Cnemidandrena) hirticincta, Andrena (Cnemidandrena) nubecula, Andrena (Callandrena s.l.) simplex, Perdita (Perdita) octomaculata, Melissodes (Eumelissodes) fumosus, Colletes simulans, and Colletes solidaginis.  Plants host the caterpillars of several moth species. White-tailed Deer and Cottontail Rabbits graze on the foliage.
