Description

Dense, upright-spreading tree reaching 15' in height and width. Flower buds deep red, opening to single, pinkish-white, 1.4" diameter flowers. Fruit bright red to orange-red, often lighter on the shaded side, profuse. Subject to slight scab, fire blight, and powdery mildew (Nichols). Fruit attractive to birds. Plants sold by nurseries are usually inferior seedlings of sieboldii 'Calocarpa'; plants should be vegetatively propagated from Arboretum plants of documented origin.
