Wildlife photographer Marie Read captured stunning images of birds in Cornell Botanic Gardens F.R. Newman Arboretum and beyond. In this video, striking photos of beloved birds such as the Baltimore Oriole play alongside their songs, courtesy of the Macaulay Library of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. 

The photos were featured in the exhibit “Keeping Common Birds Common: Birds and Habitat at Cornell Botanic Gardens and Beyond” in the Cornell University Library. The exhibit shows how birds are protected and nurtured by conservation practices and sustainably managed landscapes exemplified by Cornell Botanic Gardens. Campus collaborators on the exhibit sponsored a lecture (video on demand) by noted entomology and wildlife ecology professor Doug Tallamy about how to keep common birds common. In Cornell Botanic Gardens’ Elizabeth E. Rowley Lecture, Tallamy describes the challenges facing our common birds and simple changes we can make to keep them alive and well.
