Description
According to Dirr, 1997 this cultivar originated from the original S. xbumalda. The best form reaches 3-4' high and 4-5' wide at maturity. 'Anthony Waterer' has 4-6" diameter, essentially flat topped, carmine pink inflorescences. The new leaves are brownish red changing to bluish green. They may turn wine-red to russet-red in the fall. Flowers appear in late May and June, and the reddish purple fall color is apparent by early November. The richly polished brown stems add a degree of winter interst. Dirr is convinced there are numerous forms in the nursery trade, with variations in leaf color and flower color.
