Rhizomatous perennial herb reaching 6' in height; essentially glabrous below inflorescence, aromatic;leaves mostly ovate or obovate, to 4" long, 1- to 2-pinnatifid into oblong, toothed or entire segments, dark green above, white-tomentose beneath; heads to 1/8" across in dense, leafy panicles; flowers mostlyreddish-brown.
