The warm temperature plants featured in our container collection and tropical gardens are grown in our greenhouse during the winter and early spring. Before going on display, we repot the plants into their display containers and use a commercially available soil-less mix. This soil-less mix retains the water, nutrients, and oxygen needed for plant growth in our smaller containers. Because the mix contains no nutrients, we add a dry, organic, slow release fertilizer into the growing mix as we fill the containers. All container plants are watered frequently. Plants are gradually “hardened off” by moving them from the greenhouse to an outdoor protected and shady location to prevent sun and windburn prior to going outside for full display in late spring.
The Cascadilla Gorge Trail between College Avenue and Linn Street is now open for the season. For your safety, please remain on official trails and do not enter closed trails or restricted areas around the gorges.
