Description

Related to P. mlokosewitschii and P. wittmanniana, also listed as P. wittmanniana ssp. nudicarpa. Local botanists (in the Caucasus) distinguish other plants that may prove to be true species, or - since many peony species cross easily and widely - may prove to be only natural hybrids. Of these questionable species the only two known to be growing in the west are the white-flowered P. steveniana and the pink to white P. chameleon (Rogers "Peonies" pg. 57).
