Description

Dark green leaves edges with yellow on graceful arching stalks; white flowers in May followed by blue-black berries. 24-30" tall (Shady Oaks). The rare, true variegated form. Young stems are striking red; leaves are 6" long with pronounced yellow edges, turning buttery yellow in fall. Fragrant white flowers in early spring followed by blue-black berries (Wayside). G.S. Thomas lists only two variegated polygonatums: P. falcatum `Variegatum' with pointed leaves and reddish stems, leaves narrowly edged with white, to 3' tall; and P.xhybridum `Variegatum' with foliage striped with creamy white; more heavily variegated than P. falcatum `Variegatum' but not as desireable a garden plant, to 3' tall.
