A very attractive cultivar that has stood the test of time for well over a century. Shell-like sprays of glossy, dark green foliage form an irregularly globose specimen that becomes broadly conical with age. Quite slow growing, but is often grafted, in ten years reaching 0.7-1.5m tall depending on the vigor of the rootstock. In cultivation in the UK since 1NJ Forest Service Nursery.
