Description
Plants reach 8'-10' in height and 10' in width developing an upright-spreading habit; foliage is purplish-red turning brilliant yellow to orange in the fall; the seed heads are a showy ruby-red, held in large plumose clusters effective in mid-summer. Hardiest of the purple-leaved smokebushes but may die to the ground in extremely severe winters (DS 529) Grown at the Morton Arboretum arboretum from seed recieved as C. coggygria f. purpureus from the New York Botanical Garden. Named for propagator Ray Nordine by Interstate Nurseries in Hamburg,Iowa (DS 693).
