Description
Multistemmed, dense, rounded shrub, quite neat in appearance compared to H. virginiana, but variable in form; branches are often low and serpentine, bending up at their extremities to form a broad-rouded outline. Flowers yellow to red, variable, 1/2" across, 4-petalled, each petal about 1/2" long, usually theinner surface of the calyx lobe is red and the petals are yellow, although some plants exhibit solid yellowor red; pungently fragrant, late January through February-March and are effective 3-4 weeks, borne infew-flowered (3-4) cymes. Foliage assumes golden yellow fall color, persisting for 2-3 weeks, and isoutstanding. Plants 6-10' tall, 6-10'or more wide.
