Description
Tree reaching 15 to 30 m in height; bark gray, smooth, splitting on older stems; crown conical, brancheshorizontal, very densely arranged, young branches glabrous, glossy light brown, buds ovate, reddish, veryresinous; needles partly radial, partly also more or less parted, directed somewhat forward, the uppermiddle needles somewhat shorter, 20 to 30 mm long, 2 mm wide, stiff, generally tapering to a sharp,occasionally prickly tip, especially on young trees, glossy dark green above, with stomatal lines on theapex, 2 white stomatal bands beneath, each with 5 to 6 lines, young needles more or less yellow-brown; cones cylindrical, 12-20 cm long, 4 to 5 cm thick, brown, very resinous, scales 25 to 35 mm wide, brown tomentose on exterior, bract scales exserted and reflexed.
