Description
Erect-growing small tree similar in habit to Acer japonicum, reaching 10 m in height. Branches and branchlets canescent or even tomentose, thinner and more closely set than in Acer japonicum, the young wood somewhat sticky. Leaves 6-9 cm across, orbicular, 7-ll-lobed, dark green, hairy at the axils,the lobes doubly serrate, bases cordate to truncate, petioles 2.5-4 cm long, canescent. Inflorescences densely corymbose, terminal, slightly hairy, the flowers rather small, pale yellow. Samaras small, 1.5-2 cm long, ascending and glabrescent. Bark gray and smooth. Fall color coppery red to dark, glistening red.
