Description

Tree reaching 10 m in height in its native habitat, usually much smaller in cultivation, the branches yellow-brown to orange-yellow, not peeling or only slightly so. Leaves trifoliate, 3-7 cm long, somewhat pubescent above and glaucous beneath, the leaflets obovate-lanceolate, margins entire tocoarsely dentate, veins pilose, petioles 3-5 cm long, somewhat pilose; fall color a striking golden-yellow and orange. Flowers held in 3-flowered fasciculate inflorescences appearing on short branchlets. Mature bark is ash-brown, vertically fissured and peeling in small floccose scales, never papery ason A. griseum.
