Description
Medium sized tree with very open habit reaching 15' in height and width. Flower buds a very showy crimson-red opening to single, rose-red, 1.5" wide flowers; probably the the brightest and showiest of all the red-flowered crabs. Fruits dark crimson to maroon, too dark to be showy, 0.5" across. Like itsparent M. xpurpurea 'Lemoinei' it produces longitudinal cracks on some of the heavier branches, but these heal within the same season they appear. Good to excellent disease resistance.
