Description

Pyramidal, conical with a single straight trunk when young, supposedly developing a broad-rounded crown with age, reaching 70' to 100' in height with a 25' spread; known to reach 120' in height. Foliage golden. Bark reddish-brown when young, becoming darker, grayish, fissured and exfoliating in long narrow strips; base buttressing and developing an irregular fluted character. Initially grown in Japan under the name 'Golden Ogi' or 'Golden Mantle'; name changed in 1993 when Peter Zweinburg, of Boskoop, Holland, imported it into Europe for distribution under the new name 'Gold Rush' .
