Description

A vigorously growing pyramidal evergreen with rich green color that remains outstanding throughout the year within its hardiness range. to date it has exhibited no serious pest or disease problems. Plants reach 60' in height with a 12-20' spread at maturity, developing a tightly pyramidal to conical form. Origins: in 1967 a single plant reputed to be Thuja (standishii x plicata) was received from D.T. Poulsen, Kvistgaard, Denmark, and planted at the U.S. National Arboretum. It exhibited exceptional qualities and was distributed to nurseries. However during the distribution process, the name and identity of this clone became confused with another arbovitae from the same source, T. occidentalis 'Giganteoides'. The correct name and identity of this clone was resolved by Susan Martin, U.S.N.A., Kim Trip, N.Y.B.G., and Robert Marquard, Holden Arboretum, through extensive records searches, nursery inspections, and isozyme analysis.
