The majestic black walnut, butternut and heartnut trees, hickories and chestnuts that line the entrance to our F. R. Newman Arboretum were planted in the early 1960s. This is the oldest collection in the arboretum. It was developed to demonstrate nut trees for teaching as well as ecological, cultural and natural history purposes and to show disease resistant selections. The collection is used by Cornell plant science classes and in research.
