This collection consists of trees that are being researched for their use in urban environments, where site conditions are often poor. Their locations along the upper road mimic urban conditions such as poorly drained, compacted soils; high soil pH; road salt spray; and open, windy conditions. The collection gives Cornell’s Urban Horticulture Institute scientists and students the ability to evaluate potential trees for difficult sites.
