Description

A vigorous, early-bearing tree with some tendency towards alternate bearing. It is the most widelyplanted cultivar for commercial nut production. Nuts have high total kernel percent; a well-known cultivarthat is often used as a standard for comparison when evaluating new selections. 'Thomas' has lost favor in IL, IN, MO, and OH because of frequent summer defoliation and poor nut filling. It still rates high in PA and other East Coast states.
