Description

Low, wide-spreading shrub with stiff, cold branching pattern, the young shoots growing herringbone fashion from the older ones; tends to mound upon itself forming dense, impenetrable tangles where leaves, bottles and paper penetrate, but cannot be easily removed by raking. Flowers perfect, pinkish-white, small, solitary, borne in late May and early June; attractive but not outstanding. Fruit a cranberry-red pome, 1/4" to 1/3" diameter, borne singly, effective August through September and quite attractive. Foliage dark glossy green, extremely handsome in summer, assuming good bronzy-red or purplish tones in fall, often holding its fall color well into November.
