Description

Broadly pyramidal tree resembling a linden in youth, becoming slightly more open with age. Flowers are andro-monoecious, crowded into a 3/4" diameter rounded head held on a 3" long, pendulous peduncle, subtended by two large creamy-white bracts of unequal size, effective in May. Trees rarely flower untilten years of age, and then often do so only in alternate years. Fall color absent; fruit a solitary 1 1/2" long green drupe with a purplish bloom, becoming russet-colored and speckled with red when ripe.
