Description

Small shrub with slender, crooked, often spreading branches, weakly rounded in outline; forming a ratherdense mound at maturity. Plants reach 2' to 3' in height with a similar or greater spread. Flowers white, fragrant, apetalous, the showy parts being the stamens, borne in terminal, 1" to 2" long, 1" wide spikes, in April to early May, before the leaves, and are effective for 10 to 14 days; honey-scented. Foliage dark green, somewhat leathery; fall color brilliant yellow to orange to scarlet, often with a combination of colors on the same leaf.
