Description
Botanists in the Caucasian republics have described several other plants as distinct species or subspecies of P. tenuifolia. to date these forms have not been well studied in the west and it remains uncertain which members of this group may eventually attain species status. subsp. lithophila has very short stems, reaching only 4-8 in height (Rogers "Peonies" pg. 64).
