Description

Plants reach 1.5 m in height with upright culms; rhizome creeping and scaly. Leaf blades are often tinged purple-red in autumn and are held perpendicular to the culms giving the plant a strong horizontal orientation. Inflorescence narrow-lanceolate, to 20 cm long, pubescent, the spikelets narrow-ovate, effective in summer.
