Description

'Catskill' is a population derived from seed collected from over 16 plants along the Delaware River, Town of Freemont, Sullivan County, NY. Plants have a prostrate growth habit, reaching less than 3' in height and more than 6' in diameter. New shoots are dark reddish and shiny, often developing adventitious roots where they come into contact with the ground. The primary root system is much larger than the top growth of the plant, allowing the plant to tolerate drought conditions. The principle suggested use for 'Catskill' is on streambanks and shorelines in sandy and gravelley soils, and in areas with ice flow problems. See also American Nurseryman Dec. 1996 page 56.
