Tree, very similar to Q. mongolica, but the twigs are densely foliate, somewhat pubescent at first, but soon becoming glabrous; leaves obovate-oblong, 5 to 7 (9)cm long, the base tapered, round to cordate, tough, with 5 to 7 rounded lobes on either side, dull green above, glabrous and lighter beneath, normally glabrous, petiole 1 to 4mm long; fruits ovate, 12 to 15mm long, cup thin, scales small, smooth, somewhat concave (!).
