Description

Plant: 60 in. (152 cm.) diameter, 20 in. (51 cm.) high, mound-like, with a fast growth rate. Leaf: 13 in. (33 cm.) long, 10.5 in. (27 cm.) wide; 14 pairs of veins; medium blue-green with a slightly rippled margin; glaucous bloom on top and glaucous bloom underneath; lightly corrugated, moderately flat, nearly round with a cordate base. Scape: 22-43 in. (56-109 cm.) in length; frosty green. Flower: 2.5 in. (6.4 cm.) long, near white, tubular; Manlius, NY:7/2-7/26-8/10 (*codes 4-5-5) Seed: sets viable seeds; pod is medium green. Clump History: original seedling originated at Academy Gardens; seedling #1780, 4 years old, Manlius, NY. Notable Characteristics: makes a distinctive large blue-green dome-shaped clump.[H. ‘Treasure’ hybrid]. Additional Registration Information: Clump History. This cultivar is an open pollinated seedling of H. ‘Treasure’ that originated at Academy Gardens. It forms a low, broad dome that is distinctive. The piecrust edges and rugosity of the leaves has become moreprominent as the clump has matured. The seedling bears collection #1780. Significance of the name. Jay B. Abendroth was the part time gardener at Academy Gardens during the summer of 2000. He was also a member of the Syracuse University National Championship lacrosse team in 2000 and was captain of the Syracuse University lacrosse team in 2001. Jay will graduate from Syracuse University in 2001 with a degree in bioengineering. This plant is named for him with his concurrence.
