Canopy umbrella-shaped like that of U. americana; foliage exceptionally attractive dark green and glossy. Result of a program started in 1982 at the Morton Arboretum to select or develop Asian elms that looked like the American elm but were resistant to DED, elm leaf beetle, and elm leaf miner (DS 472). The original tree is located in the collections at the Morton Arboretum and was grown from seed collected in 1924 at the Arnold Arboretum; it is now 60' tall and 40' wide; good yellow fall color (DS 682).
