Description
Amelanchier xgrandiflora 'Ballerina' is an upright shrub or small tree reaching 15' to 20' in height withspreading branches; young leaves are broadly elliptic, finely saw-toothed, 2" to 3" long, 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" wide, bronze-colored, essentially without pubescence, dark glossy green in summer, becoming bronze-purple in fall. Flowers white, 1" to 1 1/8" in diameter, held 6 to 8 together in a 3" to 5" long fleecy, more or less pendent raceme. Fruit 3/8" to 1/2" in diameter, bright red turning purplish-black when ripe, tender and sweet tasting.
