Description
Stems 1-2.5m, square, usually spreading hispid, varying to largely glabrous; many or most of the leaves sessile, only the lower or lowermost ones evidently petiolate; lower leaf surface, at least along the midrib, relatively long-hairy; heads with mewer (mostly 8-13) rays; involucre usually finely hairy, varying to glabrous; scattered stations in the mountains and adjacent piedmont of Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina.
