Description

Tree to 30 m in height; crown ovate at first, becoming rounded with age; young shoots pubescent only at first, later glabrous (!); leaves obovate to oblong-obovate, 10-18 cm long, tapered at the base and auricular, usually with 7 lobes on either side, the narrow sinuses almost reaching the midrib, the apical lobe usually further trilobed, dentate, dark green and eventually glabrous above, gray-green beneath, pubescent (!), petiole short, 5-10 mm long; fruits grouped 2-5 together, sessile, acorns oval-oblong, 2-2.5 cm long, 1/3 or more enclosed within the cup, scales apressed. Fast grower.
