Description

Tall tree similar to Quercus palustris, reaching 25m with gray bark, smooth or with flat grooves; young buds tomentose, leaves elliptic, 8-12 cm long, deeply 5-6 lobed, sinuate, the lobes coarsely dentate, base truncate to broadly cuneate, soon totally glabrous except for the pubescent vein axils beneath. Acorns ellipsoid to nearly globose, 1-2 cm long, appressed, light brown, finely pubescent.
