Description
Narrow tree of moderate size, 15-20m tall, branches erect, leaves of the normal shape and size. Originated at the Hague in a planting at "Nachtegaalplein" (Nightengale Square). The late S.G.A. Doorenbos, a well known Dutch dendrologist, selected this tree and introduced it into the trade. The name was first mentioned in the nursery catalog of Lombarts Nusereries, Zundert, in 1949, and validly published in the _Year Book of the Dutch Dendrological Society_ 20 (1955). Scanlon also introduced a narrowly growing selection under this name in 1956; this must be rejected. Possibly both clones are in the trade in the United States under the same name. The Dutch 'Erectum' is a very useful selection fit for street plantings along narrow streets. It is generally available in the trade in Europe.
